What is a Robocall?
If you answer a call and immediately hear a recorded message instead of a live person, thatās a robocall. Some robocalls are legal – appointment reminders from your doctor, debt collector calls, political calls and calls from charities.
Illegal robocalls are from scammers trying to sell you something, without permission.
Telemarketers are able to easily make robocalls over the internet from anywhere in the world, faking their outbound caller ID name and/or number, to trick the callee that they are receiving a call from a legitimate business.
Billions of illegitimate robocalls occur each year, therefore, the FCC has enacted the TRACED act, which introduced STIR/SHAKEN into the industry. This ensures that all inbound and outbound calls to/from subscribers are authenticated and verified by every service provider, using their caller ID.
